The Summer Institutes are housed in residences that are used by Stanford undergraduates during the regular school year. While the EPGY Summer Institutes are in session, approximately forty students in the same Summer Institute course are housed together with six residential counselors who have experience in that course of study. Some residences house two courses of about twenty students each; others house multiple sections of the same course. Rooms for boys and girls are on separate floors, or in separate parts of the residence. The residences for Summer Institutes 2007 include the five Cowell Houses and the four Lake Houses.

The Middle School Program uses Stanford Row Houses. Each residence will house about 30 students and 6 counselors. Boys and girls will be in separate residences. Each room will have two, three, or four students. Dining takes place in a separate dining hall.
