Wah Yan College Hong Kong was founded on 16th December, 1919 by Mr. Peter Tsui Yan Sau. We are a Catholic boy school run by the Society of Jesus and is a fully subsidized grammar school using English as the medium of instruction. Wah Yan has an enrolment of about 1000 with about 50 teachers and some Jesuit Fathers. The campus has about 220,000 square feet, located on a small hill in the middle of Wanchai. The school has 26 classrooms, 14 special rooms, a hall, a chapel, 3 playgrounds and 2 squash courts. Wah Yan aims at the greater development of each student in each of the following areas -- moral, intellectual, physical, social, aesthetic and spiritual. Through care and concern for each individual person, we seek to form students:
1.whose acquisition of knowledge and skills is joined to values;
2.who will become reflective and will accept their strengths and limitations;
3.who know God's love and practice Christian values especially through serving the poor and working for justice. The achievement of the above relies on a spirit of community, cooperation, trust and respect among the supervisor, administrators, the teaching and non-teaching staff, managers, students, parents, former teachers and past students. Wah Yan adopts a balanced class structure: 4 classes from Form 1 to Form 5 and 3 classes for Form 6 and 7. Students of Form 1 to Form 3 are not streamed and those of Form 4 of above are allocated to Arts/Science. We do not stress only on academic excellence. We are looking for a balanced development for our students. There are 20 interest clubs, 16 school organizations and 7 Religious societies for the students. The school is also active in sports, music, debates, and many other inter-school or joint-school activities. Wah Yan believes that students will grow better in a liberal, friendly and beloved environment.
